Artist's Comments

Here's a drawing of Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood from HP. Well, an unfinished one. =pI suck at hair, and I have no idea how to make it look realistic. Any pointers?? I could really use some.

Anyway. I absolutely LOVE Luna, she's one of my favorite characters. She's so sweet and funny! And I think Evanna Lynch did an amazing job portraying her, she was exactly how I imagined Luna.

UPDATE: Yay! I did the hair!! Thank you SO much *Jon-Snow for your pointers on hair, it really helped!! It's not completely finished yet, I think I need to make some darker shades, but I almsot there now...

UPDATE 2: :w00t: I'm finished!!! I really am quite proud of the hair, I've laways had great dificulty with that, so I'm really happy with how that turned out.

PS: I do not own Luna Lovegood, she is a character created by J.K Rowling. This drawing is based on a picture of Evanna Lynch, who portrayed Luna in the HP movies. Etc.....

Good start! :)

I really struggled with hair too, until I did my own Luna portrait, and it forced me to learn some things. I've read a ton of tutorials, and you can find many here on DA or Google just by searching for hair tutorials.

Also found this video on youtube, and it seems to have helped, because I started to get the "hang" of hair afterwards. Videos are good for that, because you see the other artist at work.

These may be a little obvious to you, but I'll say them anyway: some good tips are: keep the hair simple! Start by shading in different parts of the hair and pay attention only to shapes. Use an eraser to take out the highlights of the hair (you can sharpen them with a knife to a fairly fine point). Try not to overdo the lines/highlights. A few well placed ones are better than too many.

Good luck with Luna! :)

thanks so much! I'll definitly look for some tutorials then. The link is great! And I had never thought of doing that with an eraser, that's really clever!
